While recreational travel can be fun and exciting, travel for business purposes is often just the opposite. More and more executives are opting for virtual meeting rooms instead of airlines all across the globe. Given the recent Coronovirus pandemic, if you have to travel, you’ll want to do it via a private aircraft.
And do you know the one thing that can take the hassle out of traveling? Speed.
If you fly private, then you already know that skipping lines at airports saves a considerable amount of time and hassle. However, there is another thing that can make your trips even shorter, flying in one of the fastest private jets.
Private jets range in speed from 400 to 711 miles per hour. Speed like this is now more affordable than ever. From pre-owned Citation X’s to the awe-inspiring G650, there is no better time than now to purchase a jet. You’ll get bonus deprecation, cheap interest rates, and indeed more aircraft than you ever imagined you could afford.
If you have a need for speed in the skies, then read on as we take a look at some of the fastest private jets in the world.
1. Cessna Citation X+
As things stand, the Cessna Citation X+ is the fastest private plane available. Certified by the MAA at Mach 0.935, the Citation X is powered by two dual-channel FADEC-controlled Rolls Royce AE3007C2 turbofan engines.
This American made beauty also features a glass cockpit and is fitted with a Honeywell avionics system. The cabin features luxurious sized seating and a full galley, as well as a spacious bathroom.
The jet can seat up to 12 passengers and accommodate a crew of 2.
The Citation X+ was a direct response from Cessna to a demand for a faster version of their ever-popular model, the Cessna Citation.
If you wish to purchase the Cessna Citation X+, this will set you back roughly $23 million. But you can find older Citation X’s in the mid to high one million dollar value range.
2. Gulfstream G650 /650 ER
The Gulfstream G650 was known as the private jet with the longest legs until the Gulfstream 650ER was released—which boasts an even more impressive range.
This variant of the G650 won the record for the farthest flight in business aviation history when it flew from Singapore to Tucson, Arizona, in 15 hours and 23 minutes. The average speed of this record-breaking trip was 596 miles per hour.
As you can see, the G650 and the G650 ER have what it takes to go the distance, as well as the speed to beat the clock. The G650 has a non-stop range of 8,055, and the G650 ER has a continuous range of 8,631 miles.
The maximum speed for these two models Mach 0.925 and these jets have 22 city-pair records to their name.
Both of the Gulfstreams offer generous seating for up to 18 passengers, as well as a sleeping room for 10 in the 47-foot long cabin, which is equipped with a full kitchen and bar.
The sale price of a new Gulfstream G650 is $69.5 million and $71.5 million for the New G650ER. You can find pre-owned G650’s available for much less; prices have been creeping into the mid-’30s to high 40’s depending on equiopment, condition, and asset location.
3. Gulfstream G500/G600
Nipping at the heels of its comrades is the Gulfstream G500 and the Gulfstream G600. Both of these models boast the same maximum speed as the G650 and G650 ER of Mach 0.925.
However, these models are slightly more affordable, as they are smaller and have shorter ranges. The G500 has a range of 5,965 miles, while the boosted G600’s range is 7,130 miles.
The G500 won the 2019 Flying Innovation Award thanks to its innovative safety enhancements, fly-by-wire controls, and ten cockpit touch screen displays.
Both of the models seat up to 13 passengers, contain three living areas, feature panoramic windows, and a whisper-quiet cabin.
The G500 retails for around $43.5 million, and the G600 sells for roughly $54.5 million.
4. Bombardier Global 7500
The Bombardier Global gains a prestigious place on the list of fastest corporate jets thanks to the fact that it combines maximum speeds at Mach 0.925 with superior size and amenities. During its test flights, the jet reached speeds of 650 miles per hour, making it the largest business jet to reach this speed.
Besides these factors, the Bombardier Global 7500 also sports an impressive range of 8,861 miles, hence the name ‘Global.’ The 7500 also has an extended range counterpart, the Bombardier Global 800, which comes with a range of 9,091 miles.
The Bombardier Global seats up to 19 passengers and features four distinct areas (Club, Conference, Entertainment, and Master suite) as well as a crew suite.
Besides combining size with speed, range, and amenities, the Global 7500’s interior also won a Red Dot Design Award.
If style, speed, and long-distance travel are your thing, this might be the plane for you.
The Bombardier Global 7500 sells for $73 million. Still interested? If so, browse this guide on how to apply for a plane loan. Pre-owned listings have not started to appear on the open market, but you can find Global 6000’s and XRS’s anywhere from mid-teens to high 20’s depending on condition, equipment, and location.
5. Dassault Falcon 7x/8x
The Dassault Falcon 7X and its newer model, the Dassault Falcon 8x, both fly at speeds of Mach 0.90. The Falcon 7x has a range of 6,835 miles, while the Falcon 8x can fly non-stop for 7,400 miles.
These impressive ranges allow the aircraft to compete with the Gulfstream and Bombardier for long-distance travel. At the same time, the Dassault Falcon 7x and 8x are exceedingly agile for their spacious size, allowing for steep ascents and descents to airports that are inaccessible to other jets.
Additionally, the Dassault Falcon 8x features some of the most advanced avionics available in the industry and with performance to match.
The interiors are fitted with luxurious finishes, two bathrooms, a shower, and can seat up to 12 passengers and accommodate a crew of three, allowing for a private flight attendant.
If you wish to purchase the Dassault Falcon 7x, the going price is $47.4 million, while the cost of the Dassault Falcon 8x ranges between $50 and $58 million. Fun fact: rumor is that Bill Gates and Jimmy Buffet picked out the Dassault Falcon as his jet of choice too. There are pre-owned 7x available on the open market, and pricing for a well-equipped model will be in the mid-’20s.
